Playgroup Project: WXYZ

Oh well it is all over! This was our last week for our Playgroup Summer Project. Today was WXYZ. We did W for Walrus, X for Xray, Y for Yarn, and Z for Zebra.

I think this walrus was super cute! The mom who hosted this was a school teacher.

I hosted the X letter. I got the idea from Lewelling Daycare. I did change it just a bit though. They used Q-tips for their bones, while I used yarn for ours. I like this project, because you can use your child's hand or foot depending on the age.

If you can not tell, Mama Bear glued the yarn on the letter Y. Little Bear did not want to do it.

A is for Alligator....

A is for Alligator....

So today, to continue our A is for Alligator lesson, I decided to take Little Bear on a tour of the everglades to see real live alligators in their natural habitat. This is one of those times when living in South Florida is a good thing.

For those that do not know, they use these air boats while touring the everglades. The air boat has the propellers above the water, to keep the wildlife safe. They are nifty little boats, however very loud. Little Bear kept her ears covered almost the entire time.

Little Bear is super excited! She loves any kind of boat rides or water activities. Plus she loves all kind of animals.

A is for Alligator. Here are the two alligators we saw today. These pictures were not taken with a zoom. We were really this up close and personal with alligators! A little scary but very awesome as well. While we were looking at the Alligator, I would ask Little Bear where the nostrils are and where the eyes were located. She kept telling me she wanted to see the Alligators teeth. Told her they were too scary to see..lol. Overall we had a blast today! Can not wait to go back again!

A is for Alligator!

This week we are focusing on the letter A. Today, A is for Alligator! We started the week by putting the letter A on the Coconut tree. For more about our Coconut Tree, click here.

Little Bear really liked putting the letter on the tree! After we put the letter on the tree, we read Alligators and Crocodiles by Gail Gibbons. It is a pretty good book which details the differences between Alligators and Crocodiles and talks a little bit about where they live and what they eat. However, there are pictures of the Alligators eating birds, so it might not be for everyone.
After our book, Little Bear did her letter art. The Big A in the shape of an Alligator. I got the idea from Totally Tots, here. I did not follow her directions exactly, to see the changes I made click here.

Here is Little Bear's Alligator A. I bought her a notebook from the Dollar Store that we will put all her letters together in sheet protectors. After we did the letter craft, I gave her the worksheet book. You can see how I created that here.

She liked the fact that all she had to do to erase a mistake was wipe it with a tissue. After the worksheets, it was time for our alligator craft. Today, we made a puppet. I got the template from First School.

However, instead of using a paper bag, we used a craft stick. I had to glue two craft sticks together to keep the head from falling over. Little Bear is now excitedly playing with her very own Alligator.

Cub School!

Cub School!

Yea! So we started Cub School today! Due to some money issues I did have to change some stuff. But it seemed to work out just fine!

I bought these letter stencils at the Dollar Store for our coconut tree. To see more about the Coconut tree read here. They are the perfect size and color. The yellow sticks out perfectly from the brown and green.

I got this book a long time ago at Costco but never really used it. I took out all the pages that deal with the letters, luckily it was perforated, and put them in sheet protectors. I had to cut the pages down a little bit, but that was okay. Now, Little Bear can write her letters over and over again.
So for the start of Cub School, we will work on our letters. One letter per week. Each week we will focus on two themes, one theme for the big letter and one theme for the little letter. We will read a book per theme and do a letter craft per theme. I got this idea from Totally Tots. I did not follow her directions exactly. For the Big Letters I used half a piece of construction paper and for the Little Letters I used a quarter of the construction paper. However, after I finished all the letters, I kind of wish I followed Totally Tots instructions. Her letters came out perfectly and really cute. Some of mine just look funny. Oh well...

After we do the letter craft we will do some ABC worksheets. After the worksheets we will do a craft or activity that fits with the theme.

Playgroup Project: MNO

Well this week we focused on MNO. I am a little upset though. I seem to be missing all the alphabet pages I printed from First School. As stated in another post, I printed all the alphabet pages, then Little Bear colors them and we cut up the little pictures on the bottom and glue them to the art work we did in Playgroup. We then take the colored letters and put them in their own little book. However, we could not do that today, because all my alphabet pages are missing. So, all I have to show you are the projects we did in Playgroup.

M is for Mouse.

N is for Nest.

Now, I hosted the O activity. I found this super cute Owl pattern, here. I had to left click to save, then opened it up on paint. I had to re-size it a couple to times to make it the perfect size. The Owls came out super cute!

I am hoping that I can find those Alphabet pages soon. So that we can finish the MNO. I will be posting something about our ABC book soon!
